Registered Charities in Toronto Can Receive 40% Rebate on Property Taxes
November 12, 2004
One very easy and simple way for a registered charity in Ontario to save some money is to apply for a rebate of property taxes from their local municipality.
For example if a registered charity with office space in Toronto simply completes a form and has the landlord complete a similar form and submits the forms to the City of Toronto, the registered charity can receive 40% off their property tax bill. Don't forget the February 28, 2005 deadline for the City of Toronto.
The City of Toronto website at http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/taxes/tax_rebates.htm#2 provides as follows:
"Registered Charities
In 2004, registered charities may be eligible for a rebate of 40% of property taxes paid.
To be eligible, a charity must have valid registration number issued by the Canada Revenue Agency and be occupying space in a commercial or industrial property.
For rebates of 2004 property taxes, application must be made to the City by February 28, 2005. Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.
