Henry Blumberg is the managing partner of Blumberg Segal LLP. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and then became a lawyer in South Africa, where he joined a firm and became a partner in Port Elizabeth. Henry immigrated to Canada with his family in 1980 and requalified by attending Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1984 founding the law firm that is now known as Blumberg Segal LLP and he has practiced law on Bay Street in Toronto ever since.
Henry practices Commercial Litigation with particular emphasis on Shareholder and Partnership Disputes, Estate Litigation, Employment Law, and Product Liability. He has appeared in all levels of Court in Ontario, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court of Ontario, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and in various administrative tribunals including the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO). Many of his cases have resulted in reported legal decisions, including cases on Shareholder and Partnership Disputes, Adminstrative Tribuals, and Appeals.
Henry is a Past President of the Canadian Council of South Africans and founded the University of Cape Town Foundation in Canada. In 2011, he was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Medal from the University of Cape Town in recognition of his countless hours of volunteer work for the benefit of the University. Henry was awarded the Humanitarian Award from the South African government in 2009. Henry remains actively involved in the local South African community as well as other volunteering efforts abroad.
